- Abstract:
- Medoc is a two-year project sponsored by the German Secretary for Research and Technology (BMBF). Six universities and research institutes participate in the project, twenty additional universities and research institutes and three companies are so-called pilot users to verify the usability of the system to be built. Medoc aims at providing Computer Science researchers with information relevant to their research, on their desktops. The Medoc System will therefore build a distributed database of structured, hierarchical full texts as well as provide access to existing, ``foreign'' full text and bibliographic databases. The paper will show how this goal can be achieved by defining a suitable data model that allows integrating this multitude of data sources ``under one roof'' without sacrificing functionality. Other data sources can be integrated by looking at a subset of the full data model.
